Compute a file’s SHA-256 fingerprint.
Get a 64-character fingerprint and compare it with a reference value. Your file stays on your device.
Processed locally. Your files stay on your device.
100 MiB maximum. The file is read in memory, not uploaded.
Choose a file to compute its fingerprint.
Check that a file matches its reference
Choose the file, then paste the fingerprint given by the sender or the publisher. Two identical values show that the content matches that reference. Renaming the file does not change its fingerprint.
A fingerprint does not replace a security scan
SHA-256 does not detect viruses and does not encrypt your documents. The comparison is only useful if your reference fingerprint comes from a trustworthy source. On its own it does not verify the sender’s identity.
A local calculation, nothing kept
The calculation uses Web Crypto, built into the browser. The 100 MiB limit reduces the memory needed; some devices can still run short of resources. The file and its fingerprint are not sent to DocBunker and are not saved by the tool.
To send your documents afterwards, read our guide to sharing confidential documents with a client.
